It is said that Florentine artists young and old made pilgrimages to the Brancacci Chapel to marvel at and learn from Masaccio’s achievement (stories recount visits by Michelangelo and Leonardo, who sat and sketched).

A devastating fire in 1771 somehow left the Brancacci frescoes intact, but elsewhere in the church you will see the late Baroque architecture and styling used to recreate the church. Opposite the Brancacci Chapel is the Corsini Chapel, a rare jewel of the Florentine Baroque style.
